Without the past or the future, who are you?

Updated: Jan 31, 2021

All that is left is the present moment. And all that is ever needed, is the present moment. The present moment is a place of peace, tranquility and non conditioned thinking.

The short video below gives a little more overview.

The opportunity for fearful thinking gathers momentum when we project ourselves into the uncertainty of the future. And in similar essence when we spend too much time mulling over the past, analysing what we should have done better, we are investing in mental activity which could be better directed elsewhere.

When do you take a break from thinking?

It may be a surprise to hear that thinking is addictive. It is the most common addiction and yet very few see it as such. Many of us fail to recognise in ourselves that we are suffering from an addiction to thinking.

The mind is a tool and so it benefits us to use it as such. It is there to be used for a specific task, and when the task is completed, you can lay it down and return to the present moment. When we park outside our house, we switch the engine off and when we finish pouring a glass of water, we switch the tap off. So after we finish our constructive thinking, a state of non thinking should become primary.

When a person is overwhelmed by thinking they become fully identified with their thoughts. There is no clear division, to the thinker, between thoughts and self identity and the thoughts dictate their life.

The good news is we do not have to remain at the mercy of overthinking.

First we must develop and become masters of our own awareness.

Awareness in this instance is the acknowledgment of our destructive thoughts, or thought patterns, as they develop. We become familiar with this occurrence so that when the fearful or negative energy becomes primary in our mind, we recognise it for what it is, and we chose not to engage with it.

Awareness enables us to create a division between thoughts and ‘I‘, and we become able to observe thoughts as a separate entity to our identity.

We no longer see thoughts as instructions, rules to follow, or definitions of ones self.
